The house

Chestnut beams, stone arches and a kitchen made for long dinners

Casa Ventinove dates from the 16th century. The stone walls, arched doorways and beamed ceilings are original. The kitchen, the bathrooms and the glass winter garden are new.

Downstairs, the kitchen and dining room sit under a wide plastered arch, with a table for eight, marble worktops, a gas hob, an electric oven, a dishwasher, a moka pot and a Nespresso machine. A brick arch leads through to the winter garden, a glass room with sofas, a wood-burning stove and doors that slide open to the garden.

Upstairs, the large living room has a decorative stone fireplace, leather armchairs, a pull-out sofa, shelves of books and board games, and doors onto the roof terrace.

Outside

A roof terrace over the village, a garden lit at dusk

The roof terrace has a corner sofa, a parasol and a small table, and looks over the rooftops of Silvignano to the valley floor. Guests tell us it is where they end up at sunset, and again later for the stars.

Below, the garden has a dining table for eight under festoon lights, and a stone courtyard at the front door with a table for morning coffee.

“Memories of sitting with an Aperol Spritz, reading a book on the terrace watching the sun go down, will linger long.”

The pool

Fifteen metres of water with the valley in front of you

The pool is 15 by 4 metres and sits in our own one-acre olive grove, a short walk down a gravel path from the house. It has loungers and reclining chairs for eight, two parasols and an outdoor shower. The area is fenced and gated.

It is open for the whole season, 15 April to 15 October. It is unheated: warm in summer, bracing in spring and autumn. It is 1.5 metres deep from end to end, so young children and non-swimmers need an adult in the water with them.

“The pool is massive with an excellent view that really is second to none if you want a quiet and quaint getaway in Italy.”

“Beautiful villa in an amazing location, very peaceful, with glorious views, and the pool was a godsend given how hot it was during our stay.”

About us

Ventinove is Italian for twenty-nine

We are Tiziana La Rocca and Jamison Mize. After many years of visiting Umbria we bought this house, at number 29, and it has been our family home in Italy ever since.

What keeps us coming back is the mix of sophistication and rustic simplicity, and the people. Our neighbours are welcoming and proud of their food, their wine and their traditions. Every trip we tick off somewhere new, and the list of restaurants, wineries and villages still to visit keeps growing.

Casa Ventinove is a much-treasured family home, and we hope it feels that way. Settle into the slow rhythm of life in Silvignano, and tell us what you discover.

Tiziana & Jamison

“Thanks to Jamison, Tiziana, and Bianca for all your help before and during our stay. We’re looking forward to returning next year!”
